Woodspring – Pracc 1

A warm welcome from the Woodspring club to the 10 skippers who had travelled from around the country. Given the wintry conditions through the week it was a great opportunity to get sailing again with these big boats. Several new faces to the Pracc series in the form of Steve Wheeler from Lee Valley (56), Graham Harris from Dartmoor (125) and Kevin Alcock from Bournville (91) all had good placings throughout the day.

Those that know Woodspring the wind came from the club house corner across the lake towards the island. We started in quite a strong top suit breeze, with several boats opting for flat mains to give them that little bit more control when the gusts came through. Richard Aucott set off with a set of first places closely followed by Nigel Clarke in both opening races. As racing proceeded the wind gradually dropped, with all boats opting for full top suit by race 5. First places were shared out between Richard Aucott, Nigel Clarke, Damian Ackroyd and Mike Ewart.

By 3.30 we had raced 16 races, earning us 3 discards. Well done to Richard for coming home first, but also to the whole fleet with some very close sailing and very few incidents.
