PRACC 1 2015 @ Hampton Court -Report

March 13, 2015

In from John Smith our reporter for 2015

PRACC Series 2015

Event 1 – Hampton Court 8/3/15

Although we didn’t really get to see sunshine very much during the day, it stayed fine and dry with a stiff breeze probably true to the forecast 10/12 mph mainly down the lake.  The wind direction swung round to the right more as the day wore on meaning that Colin Trower (PRO) and his race team had to make some subtle changes to the course.

A couple of last minute withdrawals meant that 20 skippers would contest the event.  Over the course of the day 20 heats were sailed and the standard was both high with some close but clean racing.  Only one general recall was required despite 12 boats being on the start line throughout the day.

The seeding races saw wins for Peter Wiles and Dave Andrews but then Darin Ballington took wins in both Race 2 and Race 3.  Tony Guerrier would also take a win in Race 10 so it was not that surprising that these four finally took the top four places overall.

A few gear failures also kept the race rescue boat sufficiently busy.

In the end then 10 points net covered the first four boats, Peter Wiles from Darin Ballington, Tony Guerrier and Dave Andrews.

Possibly the worst bit of news was when, during his acceptance speech at the prize-giving Peter claimed that he really needed to get in some more practice!

Thanks are due to Colin and his team of helpers for giving us all a most enjoyable day’s sailing.

Keep your eyes open for more details of future events and the table of positions.
