Taplin Trophy & PRACC 10, Poole- Results & Report

October 8, 2012

Very little wind and what there was came from the East forcing us to hold the racing in the main lake rather than the Model Yacht enclosure.  Ken Binks kindly offered his services as RO for the day allowing both Peter Wiles and David Munro from the Poole club to take part – many thanks Ken.

With 16 boats the entry was split into 2 fleets and a total of 8 races were held during the day.  The racing was very close at the top with only 3 points between the first 3 places.  The wind direction made for interesting racing with plenty of shifts which could be used to advantage (or in my case disadvantage).  The individual race winners all came from the top 5 skippers with Trevor Binks winning 2, Peter Wiles 3, Dave Andrews 2, Darin Ballington 1 and Martin Raishbrook 1.  The winner at the end of the day was Trevor Binks sailing his VENOM from Peter Wiles with a SWEET and Dave Andrews with a SWORD – a good cross section of current designs

The only mishap of the day was Ken Binks who managed to have an argument with a low tree branch in which the tree won and he came away lying flat on his back with a king sized lump on his head – we hope that the lump has subsided and all is OK

The weather remained fine and sunny throughout the day and provided an enjoyable day’s racing for the last of the PRACC series
