PRACC 2012- One of the closest finishes.

October 8, 2012

We have come to the end on the 2012 PRACC series – the years are definitely getting shorter and it is difficult to believe that it is 12 years since the series started.  Yet again it has proved to be successful with 44 skippers taking part over 10 events.  It was disappointing that the race at Manor Park had to be cancelled at the last minute due to imminent flooding but those of us who ventured North had an enjoyable day with a bit of One Metre racing on the Saturday culminating with a superb meal in the clubhouse produced by Tracey Ballington – so it was worth the visit and, hopefully the weather might be kinder next year.

There was a disappointingly low turnout for the RA Nationals at Longham Lakes, Poole.  This was due in large part to the struggle that some skippers have with a 3 day event and also launching at Longham is not easy as the prevailing wind tends to blow straight on to the pontoon which can be a struggle, particularly with the large RA boats.  Next year the Nationals are being reduced to 2 days and will be held at Gosport.  They will also be the culminating event of the series and the Poole Taplin Trophy will move earlier in the year in an attempt to avoid the dreaded weed.  There will also be a few changes to the scoring system but these will be outlined with the PRACC calendar at the beginning of the year.

Linda and I finish by thanking all skippers who took part and make the series successful and also thanks must go to all the clubs who ran events for without them the series would not happen.

See you all next year

Some may not be aware that the series was 1st conceived in memory of Linda Munro’s father who was a keen model yacht sailor, it was fitting that Linda’s mum should present the prizes.

John Smith was presented with the Gerry Gray trophy for the highest place skipper who had competed in the most number of events, with 8 out of a possible 10 John certainly deserves this. We are counting 8 as John made the long trip to Manor Park only to be thwarted by the flood waters at the entrance.
