Another update on the Gunboat from Oz

November 8, 2011

Just an update on the performance of Gunboat. 3rd in NSW State Titles 4 points behind winner after being unable to sail the last five races due to transmitter failure, and 3 wins and a second in the 4 GP events. I have recently had the opportunity to race the boat on an exposed coastal lake in 18-25 knots of wind and substantial waves using B jib and B2 main. The boat handled the conditions fantastically, powering to windward and showing extraordinary speed offwind winning most of the races thus dispelling any doubts about its ability in stronger conditions. Any thoughts about 12 kg boats not performing in rough conditions are ancient history! My new carbon fibre Gunboat has been test sailed with the current rig while awaiting the new gear from UK. Three other Gunboats are also nearing completion at our club and this nucleus of modern boats will provide a very competitive fleet at future events and I will keep you updated about their progress. One of the builders is also producing excellent cf fins, rudders and elliptical curved booms for these boats.

(Thanks for keeping us informed Brian)
